Abstract

The purpose of the study was to explore how hearing-impaired teenagers in Echague, Isabela Philippines use the Internet. 25 teenagers aged 13-21 participated in this study. It aimed to better understand how these teenagers adapt to the fast-paced technology. It aimed to discover about the aspects of the internet that gives appeal to them. It also aimed to know how this technology helped them in communicating themselves.

In the process of gathering data, the respondents were convened in one place for a face-to-face interview and interviewed inside their houses. A sign-language interpreter from the Echague Municipality Social Welfare and Development mediated during the face-to-face interview.

The result of the study revealed that the internet has played a big role on their lives. Their activities on the internet are chatting, researching, online gaming, reading and watching videos with subtitles. All of them felt the positive aspects of the internet towards them.

To provide contrast, this study determined the difficulties of the respondents in using the internet. These added more in fostering the awareness of people, hearing or non-hearing, about the Web culture of the hearing-impaired individuals
